Iran sees region’s security as its own: Zarif

TEHRAN, Jul. 28 (MNA) – Iranian FM Zarif says despite Iran’s different views from other neighboring countries on Mideast developments, the Islamic Republic considers the security of the region as its own.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari in the country’s capital, Baghdad, on Monday.

While noting the recent landmark nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 countries, Zarif maintained that now the country could address its principal priority which is cooperation with neighboring and regional countries.

He further stressed that Iran saw no obstacle in negotiating with Middle East countries to settle problems facing the region.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, commended the growing relations between the two countries, saying Iraq is ready to help with expanding constructive cooperation with other regional states in various fields.

Jafari also stated that Iraq is ready to engage in talks with all countries in the region to resolve problems.

Zarif, who arrived in Baghdad late on Sunday as part of his tour of three regional countries, also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Heidar al-Ebadi and President Fouad Massoum to discuss issues of mutual and regional interest.

Elsewhere, the Iranian top diplomat hailed in his meeting with Heidar al-Ebadi Iraq’s stance on bilateral and regional issues, saying the nuclear deal would definitely benefit the two countries as well as all countries in the region.

For his part, al-Ebadi also expressed his satisfaction over the successful conclusion of negotiations between Iran and the 5+1, saying the nuclear accord proved the allegations against the Islamic Republic were completely baseless.
